Dramatic Brands Hatch finale in store for Renault UK Clio Cup Junior

Renault UK Clio Cup Junior’s first Champion will be crowned at Brands Hatch this weekend (Sat 18/Sun 19 November) and a nail-biting season finale is in store with three drivers in with a very real chance of taking the title.

At stake for one of the drivers – all aged between 14 and 17 – is a free registration into the senior Renault UK Clio Cup which races alongside the British Touring Car Championship live on ITV4. Valued at £18,000, it’s a much sought after prize…

Leading, after a maiden win and a second last time out at Pembrey, is karting champion Jack Young (Belfast) with the small MRM Racing team. However his advantage over nearest rival, Team Pyro’s Max Marzorati (Harrow), is just four points.

And when the championship’s all-important two-dropped-scores rule is factored in (each driver must discard his or her two worst results), it is three-time winner Marzorati – with comparatively little previous racing experience – who moves ahead by three points.

JamSport Racing’s Ethan Hammerton (Northallerton) is also firmly in the hunt in third – he, too, is among the four drivers to win so far and was on the podium in both races at Pembrey last month. Team-mate Gus Burton (Colchester) who had been in the running as well has unfortunately had to withdraw from the event...

Meanwhile Pyro’s former Fiesta Junior champion Harry Gooding (Bridgwater) and JamSport’s spectacular Louis Doyle (Chorley) will both be eager to add to their podium results to date and could be thorns in the sides of the main title protagonists.

A real spoiler could be Lorcan Hanafin (Guiseley), another former karting ace. The Pyro driver has been rapid everywhere as five pole positions and a dominant victory previously at Brands testify.

TJ Rodriguez (Rayleigh) makes his second outing. Will Dyrdal (York) – who won the Junior Saloon Car title ahead of Hammerton at Brands Hatch in September – makes his debut with renowned senior Clio Cup outfit Westbourne Motorsport.
