Brett Lidsey says regular podium results are his target when he lines up on the grid for his second full season in the Renault UK Clio Cup with the MRM team this year.

Lidsey achieved a best result of fifth and also set two fastest race laps en route to 13th overall in 2018’s Clio Cup, although he missed Oulton Park’s rounds as they clashed with his wedding day! He was also a front-runner with MRM when they contested the end-of-season Clio Cup ‘world final’ together at Paul Ricard in France in November. His 2019 campaign will be sponsored by Liftout LTD, Dornack International and Certus Security.

Lidsey, aged 27-year-old from Northfleet, Kent joked: “I really like the MRM set-up and it's fantastic to keep the continuity of working with Mike (Ritchie) again. “Obviously, having two quick team-mates in Jack Young and Ben Davis is great and I'm confident we can all do an excellent job together this season. I’d love to start getting podiums on a regular basis and that's the aim for my second full year in the championship.

“I'll be putting a lot of work into qualifying as that's always hugely important in a series as competitive as the Clio Cup, but I'm confident in my ability to race through anyway – that's one of my strengths. “Last year was a good step forward for us and I'm determined to make this year an even bigger step.”

All 18 rounds on this year’s Clio Cup calendar will take place at the British Touring Car Championship’s high profile events – starting at Lidsey’s home circuit of Brands Hatch on the weekend of Sat 6/Sun 7 April.

Trackside crowds of over 38,000 people are anticipated at each event (these at top circuits around the UK and ending back at Brands Hatch in October). Race action from every fixture – all headlined by the British Touring Car Championship – will be broadcast live on both ITV4 and ITV4 HD and also live-streamed to mobile devices.

Mike Ritchie, Team Principal of Bristol based MRM, said: “Brett’s inclusion in our line-up for 2019 gives us another very capable driver and crucially ensures continuity for us. “We’ve worked with Brett for several years now know what he wants and vice-versa. We also saw some great development from him in 2018 and I’m sure he can be pushing for podiums every time out this season.”
