Registrations for the new Renault UK Clio Cup Junior championship will open next Monday 24 April.

The registration fee will be £4950 + VAT. This includes participation in all six events which each include warm-up and qualifying sessions plus two races (12 rounds in total).

They start at the Thruxton circuit in Hampshire on Sat 3/Sun 4 June.

Drivers looking to register should contact Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes: Email

Renault UK Clio Cup Junior is an entry level car racing category for drivers aged 14 to 17 years old. They will be in cars almost identical to those used in the Renault UK Clio Cup which stars at British Touring Car events.

The only changes are a minor modification to the car’s ECU – limiting it to five gears and 100mph – and a switch to road specification tyres, Michelin’s high performance Pilot Sport 3.

A number of established senior drivers have raved about the Clio Cup car that has been developed for the Junior championship – notably BTCC star Ashley Sutton.

“The registration fee works out at barely £800 per event and we believe this to be fantastic value for money for a manufacturer-backed championship – particularly when it is Renault Sport with all its very famous racing heritage and success,” commented Will Fewkes, Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager.

“As we have made very clear Renault UK Clio Cup Junior is not just about 12 races for 14 to 17 year olds – it is there to bring on young drivers in a responsible environment and in cars using the latest technologies and with a great track record in terms of safety and reliability so as to prepare them for a future career in motor sport with the next obvious step being the senior UK Clio Cup.

“We are all very excited about the new Junior concept and are very much looking forward to welcoming these young drivers and their families into the Renault Sport fold.”
