After being the curtain raiser for the first time to the most prestigious Grand Prix in F1 last year, the Formula Renault Eurocup will return to the Principality with two races this season!

Two races at Monaco

Renault Sport has a long tradition of organizing support races during the F1 Monaco Grand Prix. The adventure began in 1976 with the R5 Alpine European Cup and has continued to this day.

Following the saloons, Renault’s open wheel series’ have competed since 2003 in the streets of the Principality successively with the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup, the Formula Renault 3.5 Series and since last year the Formula Renault Eurocup.

In 2017, there will be two races on the programme. The weekend will begin on Thursday with collective testing sessions, followed by qualifying on Friday that will determine the starting grid on Saturday and Sunday, as the curtain raiser for the F1 Grand Prix.

A great showcase

It is safe to say that all the drivers entered in the 2017 Formula Renault Eurocup will be eager to show their best in front of the motorsport elite present in Monaco this weekend, as was the case of Sacha Fenestraz in 2016, who demonstrated his talent in taking the victory despite very difficult weather conditions.

23 races on the calendar

With 10 meetings on Europe’s finest circuits, including Pau and Monaco, there are 23 races on the 2017 calendar. Seven rounds will host two races, while the meetings at the Hungaroring, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will feature three races.

Jean-Pascal Dauce, Renault Sport Racing, Director of Customer Competition Programmes: “To be able to race in Monaco is the dream of every driver! It is a fantastic opportunity for the young hopefuls of the Formula Renault Eurocup to demonstrate their talent in front of the decision makers of the next categories on the motor racing ladder and F1 as well as to work for their futures. We want to thank the Automobile Club de Monaco, with whom we have had an excellent relationship with for several decades, for this showcase.”
