Leader in the general clasification, Sacha Fenestraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) inherits the victory ahead of Max Defourny (R-ace GP) and Gabriel Aubry (Tech 1 Racing). Red Bull Junior Team driver Daniel Ticktum (Arden Motorsport) takes top honours among the rookies. With two meetings remaining in the season, now there are just seven contenders for the title.

Robert Shwartzman was quickest in Friday qualifying for race two of the weekend. The Russian lined up ahead of title rival Sacha Fenestraz, Gabriel Aubry and Max Defourny. Will Palmer (R-ace GP) and Charles Milesi (R-ace GP) shared row three after the two-place penalty handed to Daniel Ticktum after race one.

At the start, Robert Shwartzman held on to the lead against Sacha Fenestraz, while Max Defourny overtook Gabriel Aubry for third place, while Will Palmer looked on. Further back, Charles Milesi was surprised by Daniel Ticktum and Max Fewtrell (Tech 1 Racing).

While Robert Shwartzman gradually widened the gap, Sacha Fenestraz saw Max Defourny get very large in his mirrors. Further down the field here was contact between Henrique Chaves (AVF by Adrián Vallés) and Alex Peroni (Fortec Motorsports) as well as the points scrap among Richard Verschoor (MP Motorsport), Charles Milesi and Yifei Ye (Josef Kaufmann Racing).

Robert Shwartzman went on for a comfortable win ahead, but the technical verifications discovered inside the anti-oil-surge plate a modified regulation piece making his car non-compliant. While the performance gain was not proven, the Russian was nevertheless disqualified.

Sacha Fenestraz was thus promoted to first place ahead of Max Defourny and Gabriel Aubry, who staved off the attacks from Will Palmer. Fifth place went to Daniel Ticktum, who won for the seventh time among the rookies, followed by Renault Sport Academy driver Max Fewtrell and his fellow Red Bull Junior Team member Richard Verschoor (MP Motorsport). Yifei Ye and wild-card entry Charles Milesi and Thomas Randle (AVF by Adrián Vallés) completed the top ten. Jarno Opmeer (MP Motorsport) picked up the final point on offer.

Sacha Fenestraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing): “Unfortunately we cannot erase what happened yesterday! My first accident will always be a roll, a spectacular one and we had to change the monocoque. We know that two cars are never exactly identical and we were expecting some eventual problems. There was one with the gearbox and the clutch, but everything held together in order to keep Max behind me. Nevertheless we managed to score a lot of points. I can’t wait for Spa, where we should have a good weekend.”

Max Defourny (R-ace GP): “The win on a silver platter yesterday was good for the general classification. I needed that following my start to the season. Today, I lost a little time on lap one in trying to overtake Gabriel Aubry. He didn’t leave me any room in pushing me wide at the exit of the corner. I did manage to complete my pass into Beausset. Unfortunately, once my move was made, the gap was too big and I couldn’t really make up the ground. The goal at Spa will win as many races as I can. Last year, our pace was just as good in the Eurocup as the NEC, so we will give it all we’ve got!”

Daniel Ticktum (MP Motorsport): “We struggled a lot this the weekend to find the pace we wanted. Our only solution was to extricate the maximum from our package, especially in this intense race where I had to be 100% from the start to the end against Max Fewtrell, who was running less aero than I was. I did a good job in defending to win that battle. This is all the more positive as we knew that this circuit would be our weak point of the season. This is the best result I could get today, and it’s good to finish on a high note."
