Louis, aged 15, will join the JamSport Racing team for the eight-round championship (CLICK HERE for full race dates). The eventual Champion will win a free registration into the senior Renault UK Clio Cup which features live on ITV4 alongside the star-studded British Touring Car Championship – it’s a prize valued at £18,000.
A race winner on the North West karting scene in both Junior Rotax Max and Junior X30 categories, UK Clio Cup Junior marks Louis’s debut in car racing.
He commented: “I am really excited to be taking part in the first Renault UK Clio Cup Junior championship and am looking forward to the challenge ahead. I have tested the Clio Cup Junior race car and it feels excellent on the track – this is really important as this is my first time driving and racing cars. My aim is for top five finishes with the support of the JamSport Racing team.”
JamSport, based in Northampton, won 2016’s senior UK Clio Cup crown with Ant Whorton-Eales who now races in the BTCC.
Team Principal Jamie Going said: “UK Clio Cup Junior is a natural extension for us and we’re delighted that Louis is adding to our line-up. His karting race craft will come in very handy and, with a title-winning pedigree in other forms of junior motor sport, it is always exciting when we’re asked to oversee a young talent’s first steps into car racing.”
Renault UK Clio Cup Junior is for drivers aged 14 to 17 in equally matched cars that are near identical to those used in the senior UK Clio Cup. The only changes are they are limited to 100mph, have five gears instead of six and race on road tyres – Michelin’s high performance Pilot Sport 3 – as opposed to racing ‘slicks’.
In addition to the eventual Champion winning a free registration into the senior UK Clio Cup prizes will be awarded to second and third overall as well as each race winner.
Championship registrations costing just £1600 + VAT can be lodged with Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes: Tel +44 (0)7894 317477 / Email Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist vor Spambots geschützt! Zur Anzeige muss JavaScript eingeschaltet sein!
He added: “Louis represents much of what UK Clio Cup Junior is all about – unearthing young racing talent and giving them the right environment in which to develop the skills they will need to further their driving careers. We’re very happy to have him on board and look forward to seeing how he makes the transition from kart racing to cars.”
