After a delayed start to the season due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19 and with lockdown lifting measures gradually announced in France and Europe, Renault Sport Racing unveils a new provisional seven-round calendar for the Clio Cup France.

The 2020 calendar, highlighted by the introduction of New Clio Cup, will maintain seven rounds while reflecting the adjustments made to the Championnat de France FFSA des Circuits.

The competitors will head into battle in August at Circuit Paul Armagnac de Nogaro before joining their British counterparts at legendary Brands Hatch. The field will then return to France to race at two F1 homologated venues, Circuit Nevers Magny-Cours and Circuit Paul Ricard, before heading to Circuit d’Albi, which replaces the street meeting in Pau. Following a weekend at Lédenon, the season will conclude in mid-November with the Clio Cup Spain and the Clio Cup UK at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

To ensure sporting and technical fairness and keep costs under control for all the teams entered, five of the seven events of this more compact calendar will be eligible for points in agreement with the various parties involved. Renault Sport Racing will soon disclose the five meetings selected that will count towards the championship.

The race weekend format will use what brought success to the Clio Cup France with a few new wrinkles, like the introduction of a new scoring system and the creation of the Challenge Réseau Renault designed to further strengthen the links between the drivers and Renault dealerships.

Introduced for the 55th season of the spec-series competition initiated by the R8 Gordini Cup, the fifth iteration of the most popular promotional formula in France is more affordable than ever with its chassis based on the Clio R.S. Line’s and its four-cylinder, 1330 cc, TCe 16-valve engine and a prize scheme unequalled at this level.

As activities restart at the Dieppe factory, the new cars will be delivered from June and more than 25 New Clio Cups are expected on the starting grid at Nogaro in a little under 100 days.

Once again, the best proven and amateur drivers will battle as Dorian Guldenfels will defend his title against David Pouget, Nicolas Milan and many of the other emblematic figures in the category ready to upset the order!
