Burns, who has previously raced in the Ford Fiesta Junior category, will make the leap to the UK Clio Cup with leading squad Team Pyro. Sponsoring him will be advertising agency Talon Outdoor.
Burns only turned 16 yesterday (1 August). The UK Clio Cup’s rounds at Rockingham in Northamptonshire take place on Sat 26/Sun 27 Aug.
Only one driver younger than Burns has previously raced in the championship – Tom Onslow-Cole in 2003 aged 16 years and 23 days old. Onslow-Cole later went on to become UK Clio Cup Champion in 2006.
Burns commented: “It is undoubtedly a big leap for me to enter the senior Renault UK Clio Cup, but I am very excited about joining the grid at Rockingham and having the opportunity to compete in such a challenging championship.”
Pyro Team Principal Mark Hunt said: “This is a very bold step by Bradley but it is clear he has a mature head on his young shoulders and is approaching this in the right way. I am sure he is going to settle in quickly and will benefit greatly from working with all our drivers ahead of a full campaign in 2018.”
Will Fewkes, Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager added: “We very much welcome Bradley onto our grid and it will be very interesting to see how much progress he can make between his debut at Rockingham and the season finale on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.”
